The Good
The burger was quite decent. Very fresh and soft brioche bun that was ever so lightly toasted. The beef and pork mince patty was full of flavour and seasoned almost perfectly. Only downside was that it was a bit dry. I also loved the caramelised onions on top of the parties and gave it even more flavour.
The chips were fried pretty much perfect in my books. Very simple hand cut potatoes, fried to crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. Could do with some seasoning but in terms of frying potatoes by itself, this is definitely one of the very best.
The Mediocre
The beetroot relish in the burger was quite sweet and became slightly overpowering.
The kimchi fried rice was fine. Nothing remarkable. Ingredients were fresh and it was cooked well, but didn’t have a wow factor despite being appropriately spiced. Was unfortunate though that it didn’t have too much kimchi flavour.
The Bad
Service was a bit slow. Staff were however very friendly.
The Verdict
Not a bad brunch place with an Asian influence. Execution for the most part was pretty on point.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
No doubt. The cafe is located a bit out of the way though :(
