The Good
Most dishes were very decent. However the standout for me is the siu mai, which is the meatiest, juiciest siu mai I’ve ever had. It is clear that they didn’t skimp on fresh ingredients and was held together very well by the thin skin.
Another honourable mention is the Portuguese egg tart. While there is room for improvement in terms of the egg custard, the pastry was pretty much spot on and very alike to what you get in Hong Kong and Macau.
The Mediocre
Everything was pretty much in the good category. I guess then only issue was that our har gaos had broken skin which was disappointing.
The Bad
The pineapple bun was not nice at all. It wasn’t particularly fresh and didn’t have flakey skin which is an essential quality in my opinion. Not only that I was filled with black sesame. What an odd combination. Too bad it doesn’t work out at all in this case.
The Verdict
A very decent place for Yum Cha if not a bit pricey. Items were largely freshly made and it’s good that they don’t skimp on quality ingredients.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Yes. Would probably try to avoid ordering so much bread though.
