- Nasi Lemak Chicken
- Penang Char Kuey Teow
The Good
Nothing.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
This was probably the worse Nasi Lemak I’ve had. Here’s why:
- There was one tiny drumstick, with barely any curry sauce.
- The egg on top was a stale omlette, as opposed to a sunny-side up fried egg or a hard-boiled one. Totally out of character.
- Condiments were few and far inbetween, with the dried fish and peanuts stale and soggy.
- Sambal tasted like it was store-bought.
The Char Kway Teow tasted burnt, probably due to the fact that it was extremely dry. It also lacked any aroma or flavour of an authentic Char Kuey Teow from Singapore or Malaysia.
Trying to mask the lack of meat by copious amounts of onion is a no-go in my books. What little of the prawns weren’t fresh either. Ugh.
The Verdict
Given that it’s a place run by actual mum-and-dad Malaysians, I had high hopes for an authentic Malaysia meal. Obviously I was far, far from delighted :(
Would Penguin Eat Again?
No way. Sorry, but anything from a Papa Rich chain would’ve been better.
