The Good

The most outstanding bagel for me was The Everything. Having chomped down on it without cream cheese, my initial thought was wow. This is amazing. The herbs and seeds provided such a strong and bold aroma that just begs for a second bite. The outer was super crunchy, contrasting the inner which was spongy, firm yet moist. Everything about this bagel was spot on, most notably the flavour of the seeds and texture of the bagel itself.

As Dan recommended, I then proceeded to smother on some (a fuckload of) grilled jalapeños cream cheese and wow did that go well together. The cream cheese was smooth, thick and super creamy without being oily or heavy. The jalapeños definitely packs a strong punch and despite being super chilly, they still maintained great flavour of jalapeños. Even more wow was my next reaction. This was just amazing.

I then proceeded to try the Seasame Seed bagel just to test out the quality of the bagel by itself. As above, the crunch and texture were similarly on point. The seasame seed flavour came through really well as is. I applied the olive cream cheese with this, and while I’m normally quite hesitant when it comes to olives due to over saltiness, this was not the case. Combined with the smooth cream cheese, the olives were delicious and flavourful, with just the right amount of saltiness to differentiate itself from the cheese and bagel.

The Cinnamon and Raisins bagel was my next favourite after The Everything. While I note that I couldn’t taste any cinnamon, the Raisins were definitely delicious and reminds me of a fresh loaf of raisin toast, except better due to the crunchy outer of the bagel. This bagel had a slightly softer inner, with the raisins still remaining relatively soft and juicy. Applying the plain cream cheese only added to its deliciousness.

The Mediocre

Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of the flavour balance of the Poppyseed bagel. It felt like the poppyseed overpowered the flavour of the actual bagel as opposed to adding to it like the other three that I tried. However, all else remains delicious.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

The cream cheese was the best I’ve ever had, bar none. From the plain to the very chilly grilled jalapeños, they were all absolutely spot on in both flavour and texture.

The bagels. Well. Need I say more? This is the best you can get outside of New York. Seriously.

All this, and the result is a pretty much perfect, heavenly bagel.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

Most definitely. I can’t wait!

I would suggest everyone jump on it before the hype train gets too crowded. I dare say Prospect bagels is what Lune is for croissants.
