The Good
The Fish Taco was probably the best thing they dished out all night. Nicely crumbed fish fried to perfection enclosing a soft and piping hot inner. With some spicy green sauce drizzled on top, this made for a rather scrumptious taco and was demolished rather quickly.
The Nocciola was equally creamy, but was contrasted by occasional bits of crunchy nuts within which provided a good balance of texture.
The Mediocre
Honestly, the only things differentiating the beef, pork and chicken tacos were protein itself and the sauce. The flavours overall were rather bland and was only assisted by the sauces. The toppings, namely cabbage, corn and guacamole were common amongst all tacos. It didn’t really matter which tacos you ordered, because the resulting flavour was largely the same.
The service was extremely staggered to begin with, but gradually improved throughout and the staff ensured that our tacos kept on coming.
The Bad
The Tofu Taco was rather disappointing and definitely not to my taste. The sauce tasted rather odd and failed to complement the tofu itself.
The Verdict
At the low low price of nine dollars, the food is expectedly unspectacular. Don’t come here looking for authentic Mexican food, because you will only be disappointed. Rather, embrace the opportunity to feast and stuff your face full of meaty, generously filled taco-like food.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Sure. While the food certainly wasn’t amazing by any means, the all you can eat factor definitely made it fun and enjoyable.
I’d be back, but only at this price point.
