The Good

The service was probably the highlight of the meal. Attentive and friendly, the wait staff took our orders and refilled drinks in an extremely unobtrusive and efficient manner.

The tofu also didn't disappoint. With a thin layer of batter, the crispy outer skin enclosed an exceedingly soft and silky smooth inner. The light and airy was fragrant and had great texture.

The Mediocre

The ramen across the board were rather lackluster. The ramen noodles itself were highly ordinary, bearing much resemblance to premade supermarket packets. With a highly ordinary broth that lacked depth in flavour, the foundations of a good ramen was definitely lacking.

The Bad

The Charsiu was extremely disappointing. Overcooked and tough, the protein was extremely chewy and dry. It was also lacking in taste, namely a good pork flavour especially given the amount of fat present in each slice.

The Verdict

Overall it was a highly ordinary, and thoroughly unspectacular meal. There was honestly nothing that separates Fukutontei, from any other run of the mill Japanese eateries.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

Unlikely. Given the quality, Hakata Gensuke down the road is a much better bet, albeit at a slightly higher price.
