The Good
The Royale was a mighty burger fit for its name. Sandwiched between the seeded brioche, the highlight was undoubtedly the 150g beef patty. With a nice charring on the outer which provided a crispy crunch, the beef itself was exceptionally aromatic and exhibited a great beef flavour. This was well complemented by the bacon within, which was fried to a nice perfect crisp and liberally loaded on top. All combined with the nicely melted and drippy American cheese, as well as the refreshing crunch of the fresh lettuce and tomato, the flavours were very complementary and worked remarkably well together. Only gripe I have with the burger would be the bun itself, which was slightly too dense and hence too chewy for my liking. Though, it did hold up the tower of meat rather well.
The Onion Rings were also quite enjoyable. Fresh out of the fryer, the rings were a perfect golden brown and had a nice crispy crunch. The batter wasn't overly thick nor oily, however the onion within could've been thicker to provide more onion flavour. However, given the liberal use of salt, some rings were definitely too salty.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Being a new offshoot of the famous Third Wave, at which I had a terrible experience, I am pleasantly surprised by how well the burger was made at this new venue. The fresh, generous ingredients, coupled with the near flawless execution, undoubtedly makes for a winning combination.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Most definitely. I will no doubt be back soon for more burgers, and maybe their slow cooked meats too!
