The Good
Starting off with the trio of dips, it was naturally complemented by a huge bowl of corn chips. Crunchy with just the right stiffness, we had no trouble scooping up the dips. While the dips were all enjoyable, the most notable was the minced beef, which had a thick texture and carried with it meaty and chilli flavours. It was a long wait before the mains arrived and we polished off the dips gradually.
To our surprise, the Paella arrived on a sizzling hot plate. Piled high, the rice dish was piping hot and loaded with ingredients. While the chicken and chorizo weren't of the highest quality, what lacked in quality was certainly made up for in quantity. The flavours of the paella was authentic and bold, with the rice cooked rather well - not too hard, nor was it mushy or glucky.
The Churros were also rather enjoyable. Fresh out of the fryer, they were exceptionally crunchy. The sugar dusting on top provided a nice sweetness, though it rendered the melted chocolate sauce essentially unnecessary. For those with a super sweet tooth, the chocolate certainly wouldn't hurt.
The Mediocre
The Beef Enchilada would've been a favourite, but was let down by its over saltiness. Once again, the portion size was more than generous and so was the pulled beef within. The tortilla shell enclosing the beef was smothered in a thick bed of cheese. Unfortunately, this dish was exceedingly salty which ruined the balance in flavour.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Overall it was a half decent Mexican meal. I highly doubt the food here is very authentic, though it was definitely enjoyable regardless.
At this price point, Amigos represents very good value for money for those looking for an more international flavours that won't break the bank.
