Food

  • Ikan Penyet (Fried Fish With Rice & Belachan Sauce)
  • Nasi Uduk (Fried Chicken With Soto Ayam Soup)

The Good

The Fried Fish was very enjoyable. Cooked to order, the fish was definitely fresh out of the fryer. With an exceptionally crispy outer, the crunch of the skin was well complemented by the soft protein within. While the fish itself wasn't particularly flavourful, this was helped by the savoury and slightly spicy Belachan Sauce. Very palatable.

We also enjoyed the Nasi Uduk. A generous portion of chicken Maryland was fried to a nice crispy golden brown. With light spices coating the outer skin, the protein within was soft and juicy.

The Mediocre

Served alongside each main was a huge plate of rice and a big bowl of soup. The rice was universally too wet and moist, pretty much halfway to a congee.

The soups weren't particularly impressive either, with one being merely nothing more than boiled water with spring onions thrown in. The other was overly salty without much depth in flavour.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

Overall it was a tasty but expectedly unspectacular meal, given that it is located in a food court. The fried fish represents great value for money, and the abundance of rice and soup definitely filled me up.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

If I had to eat at Emporium food court again, then definitely. Otherwise, there are too many better food options out there to warrant a revisit.
