The Good
The Spanish Baked Eggs were a real hit, consisting of a chickpea ragout with mushrooms, goat's cheese and pesto oil. The optional chorizo was an excellent addition as the gentle heat from the sausage played excellently with the pesto oil and the tartness of the ragout, producing a wonderfully flavourful mouthful. This was all complemented with the perfectly baked egg, whose runny yolks added richness to the whole dish.
The Mediocre
Bread was an essential side to the saucy baked eggs, and sourdough was requested, however the bread was more akin to a dense white baguette, lacking the tart complexity of good sourdough, but providing a necessary side regardless.
The Organic Turmeric Golden Latte (a bit of a contrived mouthful...) was a completely new thing for me, and while beautifully presented, its mellowness of flavour seemed more confusing than charming. The spices were all there, with golden turmeric and lovely notes of cinnamon, but the sweetness from the milk seemed to dull those flavours.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
This very new cafe promises really thoughtful, well-made food but it is slightly apparently that it is a new business. Once all of those kinks of a new cafe have been worked out, Wind Chimes Cafe is a beautifully appointed space with equally beautiful food.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Absolutely. There's something just so appealing about food that is both pleasing to the eye and the palate.
