The Good
The Zucchini Corn Fritters were very enjoyable. With an exceptionally crunchy and hard outer, enclosed within was a mixture of mashed zucchini and corn kernels. This was well complemented by the slight hotness of the capsicum and pesto paste, which provided an appetising zing to the dish. Coupled with the perfectly poached egg with an exceedingly runny yolk and crispy bacon, the dish delivered on both flavour and texture.
We also enjoyed the Buttermilk Pancake. With a huge surface area and being rather thick, it was a pretty sight to behold. The pancake itself was soft and fluffy, well contrasted by the crispiness of the outer as well as the crunch of the cookie crumbs. The light dollop of cream as well as the sweetened rhubarb were a welcome addition to the pancake, which was otherwise rather dry and needed more moisture.
The Mediocre
We found the Green Eggs and Ham unimpressive, both in appearance and in taste. While the hollandaise, poached eggs and avocado were all perfectly serviceable, same can't be said for the bagel, which on this occasion felt dry and limp. Maybe a minute more in the toaster would've saved the day.
The Bad
The wait staff on our visit seem to be rather disoriented and unorganised. Lots of running around but not actually achieving very much. The lack of knowledge of the menu also raises eyebrows.
The Verdict
It was overall an enjoyable and tasty breakfast. While the menu wasn't overly creative, the food served here was definitely satisfied the tastebuds.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Sure. Though given the sheer amount of eateries just around the immediate area, I feel that I won't be rushing back soon.
