The Good

The Beef Pizza was undeniably the highlight. Loaded with slow cooked beef cheek, the protein was exceptionally tender and succulent. This was well complemented by a generous amount of smoked yoghurt and mozarella, both of which provided an additional depth in flavour and a refreshing twist to the pizza. Coupled with a crispy crust and thin base, this pizza was no doubt a crowd favourite.

We also enjoyed the Four Cheese Pizza. Topped with a mix of buffalo mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmesan and goats cheese, it was a perfect medley of melted cheeses that provided a kick in the senses, and definitely was a cheese lovers dream come true. While the pizza crust could’ve been crispier on this occasion, the cheeses used were of high quality, providing a beautiful aroma without being overly pungent.

The Mediocre

The Potato Pizza was rather unremarkable. With thin slices of potato topping a garlic base, the flavours felt reserved. We felt they the potato slices could’ve been roasted to better char to provide additional crunch. The liberal use of salt and olive oil did help, though seasoning can only do so much.

We felt that while the Eggplant Chips were well seasoned and the inner was cooked to a beautiful softness, the outer could’ve been fried to a greater crunch. On this occasion, our chips felt a tad limp.

The Bad

The Chicken Pizza was unfortunately disappointing. The protein was universally dry across the board. Smothered in a supposedly chilli jam, which was essentially a sweet chilli sauce, the pizza tastes sugary sweet and failed to complement the savoury components of the dish like the paprika chicken and the mozzarella. While the concept seems exciting, the execution was poor and flavours weren’t complementary.

The Verdict

Distinctly un-authentic, Small Print aims to combine both the thin crispy Italian base that everyone loves, with interesting and creative combination of toppings. While not all of the flavour combinations may appeal to everyone’s palates, there are definitely options to cater for all sorts of dietary requirements.

With an environmentally conscious twist, Small Print is a unique pizza joint that places special emphasis on utilising whole ingredients, minimising waste and recycling pizza boxes.
