The Good
We started off with a Braised Beef Quesadilla, which had a crisp outer shell and tender cooked beef and was satisfyingly tasty. Next, we sampled four tacos that were each filled with fresh, colourful and flavoursome fillings. To compliment the Tacos, we were also provided with some fresh guacamole and salsa dips.
First up was the Chorizo Taco, which was topped with feta cheese, rocket, black beans and of course, the chorizo. This certainly packed a punch. Next, was the Prawn Taco. While the prawns were overcooked on this occasion, the taco still delivered a tasty bite with a generous amount of delicious chipotle mayo drizzled over.
The Pulled Pork Taco was also enjoyable, with tender pulled pork, and a burst of sweetness from the pineapples to counteract the savoury flavours.
We also sampled the Street Corn which was grilled to perfection and absolutely delicious, bursting full of flavour from the chipotle mayo, melted cheese and lime. This was definitely one of the highlights of the evening and was seriously the best grilled corn I’ve ever had.
The Mediocre
The Chipotle Chicken Taco was nice, but certainly not as good as the other tacos. Although the tacos were delicious, some of the tacos fillings had too much liquid and caused the taco to become soggy thus causing the taco to fall apart somewhat.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
As a new Mexican eatery on the busy strip of Bridge Road in Richmond, Paloma Cantina certainly have exciting and fresh flavours to offer. While the dishes were tasty, the tacos required some improvement in their execution so as not to fall apart when attempting to eat them.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Yes, the Street Corn is definitely worth coming back for!
