The Good
The Curry Chicken Nasi Lemak was rather enjoyable. Served with two generous pieces of chicken, the meat was well marinated and tender. With an aromatic and spicy sensation, the Malaysian curry was well balanced in terms of spice and hotness, providing a very appetising sauce for the rest of the plate.
The Mediocre
The Fried Chicken, while crispy, was undeniably lacking in flavour. From the chicken to the batter, it was universally bland.
Unfortunately the roti was rather oily and limp, lacking in the light and fluffy characteristics of an authentic roti.
The coconut rice on all our meals also turned out to not have any coconut at all. What we were served was simply ordinary, plain rice without anything else added. Disappointing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
It was overall a decent though thoroughly unspectacular feed. While the taste of the curry was authentic, all other components were lacklustre at best.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Maybe, but with so many eateries just on Glenferrie Road, I definitely won’t be rushing back.
