The Good
The Fish Taiyaki Waffle was exceptional in every way, and was definitely much bigger than expected. Loaded with a generous swirl of matcha soft serve, the fish waffle itself was hollowed out to give way to a huge cavity that held even more soft serve. The crunchy outer of the waffle perfectly juxtaposed the softness and creaminess of the matcha ice cream. As you gradually devour the huge fish and approach the tail, you are rewarded with soft and flavoursome red bean, providing a delicious Asian twist to this already tasty dessert.
We also enjoyed the Matcha Frappe. Icy cold and exceptionally creamy, the matcha flavour was forward and bold without any bitter sensation. Topped with an abundance of whipped cream, the drink was made smooth and rich. The perfect companion to the waffles.
The Black Sesame Ice Cream didn’t disappoint either. With a slightly coarse sensation, it’s as if you could almost feel the sesame seeds within. The black sesame flavour was forward and aromatic, and served with the crunchy waffle bowl, this ice cream was simplicity at its best.
No visit to Picapika can be complete without trying their Leige waffles of course. With a diverse range of creative toppings to choose from, you are bound to find one that satisfies your tastebuds. Our favourite was the Caramel Popcorn. Topped with actual popcorn, the glazing was flavoursome, a rich sweet caramel and perfectly complemented by the slightly crispy popcorn. With a slight sponginess, the waffle itself was simply delectable, the perfect mixture of buttery and springy goodness without being overly heavy or dense.

The Verdict
Picapika never fails to surprise, and this visit was no exception. That enticing Fish Waffle was one of the most innovative and tasty Asian desserts we have ever sampled, and will remain in our memories for a long time to come!
Would Penguin Eat Again?
I’m definitely going to be back for more! In the mean time though, I eagerly await and anticipate Picapika’s next innovative offering.
