The Good

It was an amazing start with the La Roule Galette Complete, and no wonder this was the crowd favourite! Enclosed in the thin and lightly crispy French crepe, we found a delicately layered mix ofl ham, Emmental cheese, mushrooms and truffle oil. The ham itself was of high quality, exhibitign tender texture and a pleasant pork flavour. This was intertwined with a generous amount of melted Swiss cheese that was pleasant without being overpowering. Complemented by thin slices of juicy mushrooms as well as the ever-so-fragrant truffle oil, and further topped with a sunny-side-up egg, this had all the goodies you’d want in a breakfast crepe.

We also enjoyed the Navarin and Tender Lamb Crepes. The lamb shoulder on the Navarin was well-seasoned and slow cooked for 6 hours to great tenderness. The gooey softness was held together by the beautiful Emmental cheese, as well as their house-made, lightly flavoured BBQ sauce that provided a hint of sweetness that was neither too sweet nor smokey, allowing the ingredients to shine.

The La Camembert Crepe didn’t disappoint either. Loaded with a generous amount of aptly pungent Camembert, the crepe was exceedingly rich and soft. With each bite, you are rewarded with a stringy and gooey mixture of cheese and truffle oil, which was contrasted by the crispness of the apple slices sprinkled throughout. A well-balanced crepe that definitely won’t disappoint any cheese lover.

The Mediocre

We concluded the evening with the Aumoniere, an ice cream crepe. The presentation was nothing short of stunning, The twisted top of the pillowy soft crepe enclosed a mountain of lightly whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Chocolate sauce was abundantly drizzled over the top, and was further dusted with icing sugar. Despite the appearance though, the flavours were certainly lacking and felt like a relatively pedestrian ice cream and chocolate concoction.

The Bad

Unfortunately, the Crepe Suzette failed to satisfy our tastebuds. The elaborate and theatrical pouring of fire on the crepe certainly provided much wow-factor, though the crepe itself was exceedingly overwhelmed by the bitterness of citrus zest. The orange and lemon flavour overpowered all else, and the boldness was almost impossible to stomach. Needless to say, this crepe was left untouched by most.

The Verdict

Roule Galette is a quaint little French-inspired eatery that provides Melbournians with a traditional and authentic taste of traditional French crepes. Made fresh to order, the diverse range of crepes on offer here aims to satisfy every palate for every meal of the day.
