The Good
It was off to a great start with the Crispy Poached Eggs. With a beautiful and light, golden brown crumbing enclosing each perfectly poached egg, cutting open each gem reveals an incredibly runny inner. This spilled onto the crunchy Asian salad, which offers up a refreshing and zesty sensation, and soaked up by the textured seeded sourdough. This was well complemented by generous strips of lean bacon, with its fat nicely rendered down and fried to a perfect crisp. This was directly juxtaposed by the exceptionally fresh smashed avocado that provided a pleasant creaminess.
We opted to add the Citrus Cured Salmon to our dish, which turned out to be a decision well made as the salmon was exceptional in every way. Cured in house, the fish was incredibly fresh and tender, without so much of a hint of sliminess or fishyness. The slight citrus sensation was ever present and permeated throughout without being overpowering, the perfect accompaniment to the already faultless fish.
We also enjoyed the Sword Fish Tacos. The picturesque and colourful presentation made way for a thoroughly delicious feed. The chunks of sword fish were tender and cooked just right, so soft and full of flavour. This was well accompanied by an abundance of pickled onions and red cabbage, both offering exceptional crunch and made even more excitable by the slight spice of the chipotle mayo. All served within a still warm, fragrant corn taco, these tacos were definitely hard to fault.
We concluded our breakfast with the Brioche French Toast. At a great height, the thick cut French Toast was soft and spongy, with a beautiful charred outer that offered up slight crispness with each bite. Its slight buttery goodness was well complemented by the caramel sauce, which we liberally poured on top, and added a touch of sweetness, while the espresso mascarpone provided a rich and fragrant aroma throughout. With loads of fresh berries topping the dish as well as a soft poached pear, the dish delivered in both sweetness and freshness. A rather well balanced dish in all respects, and definitely satisfying any sweet tooths without overdoing it.
The Mediocre
Unfortunately, the Matcha Latte on this occasion was not to our liking. The matcha flavour was undeniably muted, and the latte itself leaned towards the watery side, instead of the full-bodied, milky sensation we were after. The honey served on the side was a nice touch, and did help with the flavours a bit.
The Bad
Nothing.
