The Good
The King Prawns within the Yarra’s Edge Pack were probably the highlight of our meal. The crumbing was fried to a nice crisp, without being overly thick or oily. Within, the prawns were sizeable and fresh, offering a juicy and satisfying crunch with each bite.
The Mediocre
The Chips and Dim Sim were perfectly serviceable, though predictably unremarkable. The chips were fried just crispy enough, and topped with lots of salt, these were enjoyable nonetheless.
The Bad
Unfortunately both the Flake and the Fish of the Day weren’t up to scratch. The batter could’ve been crunchier and crispier, though the worse bit must be the fish itself, which was way too soft and delicate and simply fell apart to tiny pieces with the push of a fork. The fish itself was mushy, a tad slimey, and generally lacked the structural integrity and firmness of a fresh piece of fish. Shame really.
The Verdict
Bustling with locals, Beluga has been on our to-go list for a long while. Unfortunately, our visit wasn’t overly impressive, and the quality of the fish was definitely questionable at best.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
It may be a once-off bad experience, but we are honestly hesitant to return.
