The Good

The Sukiyaki was what we came to Kenzan for and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The generously sized ingredients were fresh, and featured a wide variety of veggies and herbs cooked right in front of you, all in a pot filled with an amazing broth with such appetising flavour. The sweet and savoury taste of the soy-based broth only grew more intense as the sukiyaki simmered down, and the ingredients bathed within inherited the delicious flavours.

Opting for the Australian beef, we found the protein flavourful and tender, though despite our best attempts to cook it just right, we found the texture to be a tad more coarse than expected. However the raw egg definitely made it a more creamy and smoother experience, and was most definitely enjoyable nontheless. Coupled with plenty of veggies and a bowl of fragrant Jasmine rice, we were very full and satisfied by the time we devoured the whole pot.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

Delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine coupled with impeccable, courteous service, it’s no surprise Kenzan is one of the most established and well-reviewed Japanese restaurant in Melbourne.

Would Penguin Eat Again?
