The Good
The Beef BBQ set was nothing short of sensational. Featuring Wagyu Eye Roll, Oyster Blade and Scotch Fillet, these premium cuts of meat were beautifully presented, exceptionally fresh, and simply impressed in more ways than one.
Our favourite of the evening was undoubtedly the Oyster Blade. Lightly marinated, the protein was just so tender and succulent. The marinade exhibited a slightly sweet sensation without being overpowering, allowing the actual flavour of the beef to shine. With a tinge of charcoal aroma permeating throughout, each mouthful of this oyster blade was simply heavenly.
We also enjoyed the Wagyu Eye Roll. The marbling was simply brilliant and made for a very flavourful and juicy experience. No sauce was necessary as the meat itself was already so bold and tasty!
We opted for the Soft Tofu Soup from the set. Generously topped with chunks of silky smooth, pillowy soft tofu, the soup was well-spiced and flavourful without being overly chilli. The occasional bits of seafood and veggies were fresh and tasty, well accompanied by a warm bowl of rice and the char-grilled beef.
No Korean meal can be complete without Fried Chicken. Our Honey Soy Fried Chicken had just the right balance of sweet and savoury, the sauce fully coating a thinly crusted outer. Within, the chicken was incredibly tender and juicy, fried perfectly no doubt. Our only gripe would be the batter, which could’ve been fried to a greater crisp to provide better variation in texture.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
While there’s definitely no shortage of Korean BBQs in Melbourne, it’s often quite difficult to be truly remarkable in a relatively ‘simple’ way of cooking.
However, the premium cuts of beef cooked on a charcoal grill, coupled with generous, tasty sides and attentive service definitely made this one of the best Korean BBQ experience in Melbourne.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Definitely. We just can’t wait to be back to try the Pork Set!
