The Good
Our favourite dish must be the Boiled Basa Fillet in Pickled Vegetables. Served in an absolutely humongous bowl, the giant boiling bowl was fills to the brim with just the tastiest broth we’ve ever come across. The broth was rich and creamy, with just a tinge of spice to give a tingle in your mouth. The fresh fillets of bass within were incredibly tender and silky smooth, almost melting in your mouth. Combined with some rice noodles and cuts of tangy pickled veggies, this was one amazing, giant dish that’s perfect for sharing.
Another highlight of our meal were the Har Gao, Prawn Dumplings. The thin, crystal-like delicate skin wrapped an inner filled with meaty and juicy prawns. Fresh and crunchy and with just a tad of chilli sauce, this simple dish was just perfectly executed.
A must-try at any Yum Cha is of course the Siu Mai. The dumplings here were delicious, thin delicate skin holding together a meaty mixture of prawn and pork and topped with fish roe. The fresh mince had plenty flavour and def
A favourite of ours at Yum Cha is undoubtedly the Salted Duck Egg Yok Custard Dumplings. Fresh out of the steamer, the buns were soft and pillowy. Chomping down reveals an inner filled with a gooey, runny custard that was well balanced in sweet and savoury. The warm, sweet egg custard was simply sensational, perfectly executed and did not disappoint one bit.
We rounded off the meal with a stunning dessert. Made to order for special occasions, it’s no doubt this incredible concoction was the perfect celebratory treat. The nest of sugar strands stood tall, towering above and hiding away a chocolate sponge cake sitting right in the centre. Scatter alongside were chunks of colourful, fruity jelly, incredibly jiggly and its bouncy sensation was perfectly accompanied by the soft sponge cake.
The Mediocre
The Fried Squid didn’t quite hit the spot like it should. The batter was light and perfectly fried, though the tentacles were a tad chewy and tough. So unfortunate as we really really love a good fried squid!
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Over the years, we’ve become be rather sceptical of All-You-Can-Eat dining offers, as its only natural to prioritise quantity over quality.
Fortunately House of Delight has definitely buckled the trend and puts on an absolutely amazing AYCE Yum Cha experience that undoubtedly delivered in quality. We found that the dumplings on offer were well executed in the most part. Freshly made and steamed, plentiful and delicious. They’ve shown Melbourne how Yum Cha should really be like!
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Most definitely. One of the best Yum Cha experiences in the CBD no doubt, and with such delicious A La Carte dishes on offer as well, we definitely got to be back for more!
