The Good
The Mr.65 was simply awesome. Opting to double the patty and adding on an extra egg was the best decision, as the fried chicken itself was just sensational. The thin batter carried the signature 65 spice and was fried to a perfect crisp. The golden brown skin enclosed some incredibly juicy and succulent pieces of dark meat within, without so much of a hint of toughness or dryness. This was chicken done to absolute perfection. When combined with their special sauce and a runny fried egg all served in a fluffy toaster brioche, each subsequent bite of this burger just made your mouth water.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Beef It Up. The beef patty within was just so appetising, formed by a coarse ground and marinated with plenty of tasty masala spices that allowed for loads of flavour without being overly spicy. Coupled with some caramelised onions and fresh coriander, this really did taste like a masala curry in a burg. Absolutely amazing!
Another highlight of our meal were the Pataka Ribs. Directly translating to firecracker, this Chinese-Indian inspired dish definitely had all the wow factors you are after. The sticky sweet and sour sauce coated generously sized, beautifully crumbed fried chicken ribs. The meaty goodness of each rib was well complemented by a good amount of chilli, and coupled with plenty of fresh cut spring onions and onions, this refreshing take on chicken ribs certainly tantalised our tastebuds.
We also enjoyed the Butter Chicken Poutine. The creamy butter chicken sauce was beautifully aromatic. Despite the mild spices, the sauce carried plenty of flavour and served as a great sauce for the crispy fries.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
It’s encouraging to see the ever expanding burger scene in Melbourne continues to push innovation in all directions.
We thought we’ve seen it all, but Burger Shurger has proved us wrong by dishing out some amazing Indian-inspired burgers that not only up the ante on spice, but manage to impress on flavour and taste as well.
