The Good

We started off it meal with the Arancini. Simply presented, the crisp, almost airy batter concealed an inner that was exceptionally cheesy and flavoursome. Offering up boatloads of flavour and great textural diversity, these

We also enjoyed the Italian Caprese w Prosciutto di Parma. Generously loaded with plenty of prosciutto, this gorgeous entree was such a sight to behold. The prosciutto was of course impeccable, so delicate and tender, plenty of meaty flavour with just a hint of chewy sensation. This formed a solid foundation, well matched by fresh tomatoes, boccocini and basil leaves and lightly dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. This very Italian starter tasted every bit as good as it looked.

We also enjoyed the Risotto di Franco. The highlight of this dish was undoubtedly the generous helping of fresh, good sized prawns. With a crisp and almost crunchy texture, the prawns were plentiful and were well accompanied by a bed of soft arborio rice that was cooked just so. With an appetising sauce that was both spicy and rich in tomato flavour, combined with the sweetness of capsicum and onion, this risotto certainly satisfied our tastebuds.

Our meal concluded with a round of coffees. The latte art here was absolutely spectacular, incredibly detailed drawings and lines were so defined. The art was of course as cute as can be, and honestly the cup of coffee was great too. A dark roast with bold flavours and smooth creamy froth. Still quite warm after all the latte art and camera work. Impressive!

The Mediocre

The Pumpkin Gnocchi certainly wasn’t bad either, though paled in comparison to the risotto. The gnocchi was fresh, though could’ve been a tad fluffier. To our disappointment, the pumpkin flavour as unfortunately lacking on this occasion, and the sauce felt very rich and creamy without much of any other flavours to back it up. Still, not terrible by any means but definitely fell short of our expectations.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

If for nothing else, it’s worth stoping by Short Black for their coffees.

Their gorgeous latte art is bound to impress, and paired with such generous portions of Italian inspired cuisine and some of the best prosciutto in Melbourne, why wouldn’t you?
