The Good

The Boneless Fried Chicken were undeniably some of the best we’ve across in Melbourne. The golden brown, crisp outer offered up a satisfying crunch with each chomp down. The batter was just right, not overly thick yet providing just the perfect crunchy, crumbly sensation. Within, the pieces of chicken were lightly seasoned and incredibly tender and juicy. Opting for a half/half portion of Original Fried and Soy Garlic sauce, we have to admit both were equally scrumptious. The original fried allowed you to appreciate the true taste of fresh, fried chicken. While the soy garlic added a pleasant sweetness that was well balanced with the savoury flavours of the protein. Combined with a side of crisp coleslaw, this is a dish you certainly don’t want to miss out on.

We also enjoyed the Korean Army Stew. Generously filled to the brim with a variety of vegetables, baked beans, sausages, spam, tofu, the stew is cooked right on your table as the gochuchang (chilli paste) hidden underneath added an appetising and spicy sensation to the broth. Once boiling, the hot, flavourful soup was well accompanied by ramen noodles. A simple, unpretentious dish that’s hearty and satisfying.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

It’s no doubt the Korean Fried Chicken stole the show here at Good Ovening. Their light, crisp crumbing, juicy tender chicken and spot on seasoning made every bite as enjoyable as the next. Coupled with a hot and spicy Army Stew, you know you’ve got yourself a winning combination!

For a memorable fried chicken fix, you definitely can’t look past Good Ovening.
