The Good
It was off to a tasty start with the Nachos. Despite the simple appearance, the nachos had amazing flavour and tasted truly mexican. The corn chips were crisp and offered a satisfying crunch, loaded with plenty of soft pinto beans and accompanied by a fresh, tangy pico de gallo. With a tad of jalapeno crema adding spice as well as a medium-heat salsa, this bold, flavoursome starter tasted every bit as good as it looked!
We also thoroughly enjoyed the grilled chicken. Grilled on charcoal, the flavour and aroma was simply excellent and unbeatable. The lightly charred skin was well-marinated with fragrant spices and offered up a crisp, juicy sensation that made way for some succulent and tender chicken protein. Pulling apart the tender protein and loading up our tortillas with fresh salsa with varying degrees of heat simply created stunning flavours that’s bound to satisfy your tastebuds. Our favourite salsa was undoubtedly the medium, offering a good amount of heat with just a hint of sweetness to balance it off. For the adventurous though, the HOT! is a must-try.
We rounded off our meal on a sweet note with the churros. The Mexican chocolate sauce was certainly unique, offering a more muted sweetness and a lighter consistency than the thick, gooey Spanish renditions. The churros though were simply impressive, incredibly crunchy, light and with a slightly spongy inner. They were seriously perfect when combined with the Mexican chocolate!

The Verdict
While we don’t claim to be true connoisseurs of Mexican cuisine, it is our humble opinion that Los Pollos comes as close to authentic Mexican as you can get in Melbourne.
The hand-made tortillas, the perfectly grilled chicken and combined with the amazing variety house-made salsas. It’s no surprise we enjoyed our Mexican feast so much!
