The Good
It was off to a brilliant start with the Cured Kingfish. Stunningly presented, the slices of kingfish sat hidden away underneath pieces of crunchy, toasted sesame biscuits. The kingfish itself was incredibly delicate and tender, well accompanied by cubes of ponzu jelly that provided sudden bursts of savoury sensation. Coupled with some crisp diakon, this appetiser definitely tickled all the senses!
Our Grilled Porterhouse certainly didn’t disappoint either. While it may appear to be a tad over the medium-rare, the protein was simply divine. Such succulence and tender textures coupled with quality, beefy flavours. Without so much as a hint of toughness or dryness, we found the beef perfectly accompanied by the heavenly soft caramelise eggplant, while the zing of pickled onions cut right through the heavier elements.
Our Crispy Szechuan Duck wasn’t bad either. The crisp skin enclosed a tender inner that exhibited a lovely duck flavour, while the hot mint salad simply turned up the heat while creating a refreshing sensation.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
With views overlooking the Yarra River, Taxi Kitchen is perfectly located at the corner of one of the busiest spots in Melbourne.
Yet within, the tranquil and laid back environment made way for a refined and excitable dining experience, drawing from Asian influences that are bound to excite your tastebuds.
