The Good
We were off to a tasty start to our dinner with the Wagyu Dumplings and Hawker Lamb. The Hawker Lamb was served as a warm and hearty stew, full of flavour, boldly spiced and seasoned and was suitably tender and incredibly juicy. The sauces were perfectly accompanied by crisp, fluffy pieces of flatbread.
The Wagyu Dumplings also impressed. Topped with a fragrant though not overly spicy house made chilli, the delicate skin of each dumpling was pan fried to a perfect crisp. Within, the Wagyu beef was bursting with juicy goodness, delivering an amazing beef flavour and well complemented by the chilli sauce. Scrumptious!
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Beggar’s Rainbow Trout. Borrowing from the techniques of the original “Beggar’s Chicken”, the fish is wrapped in lotus leaf then baked in bread, hence creating an incredibly moist and succulent inner. The trout was perfectly cooked, stuffed with a “treasured potato” stuffing which featured a variety of veggies. Served with a light soy sauce and a bowl of white rice, this fish certainly went down a treat.
We rounded off the evening with the Peking Duck. A signature dish of Northern China, the roast duck was stunningly presented and exhibited a crispy skin. While the lean duck meant there wasn’t much fat at all between the skin and protein, wrapping each piece of duck with scallion, cucumber and Peking duck sauce in the warm pancake made each bite a tasty treat.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
