The Good

It was a pleasant start to our meal with the Tom Yum Soup and the Mongolian Lamb Ribs. The single serve Tom Yum was generously sized. The broth itself has plenty of flavour and a good balance of sweet and sour. With just a tinge of spice, the Tom Yum was loaded with tofu, prawns and mushrooms. A warming start to the meal indeed.

The Mongolian Lamb Ribs also impressed. With a delicious, sticky glaze, the lamb itself was incredibly tender and juicy without being overly fatty. The flavoursome protein effortlessly fell off the bone, and was nicely complemented by the spices rubbed through.

Our mains consisted of the XO Crouching Tiger and a Thai Green Curry Chicken.

The Green Curry was vibrantly coloured and was incredibly fragrant. The rich and creamy curry sauce embodied plenty of flavour without being overly spicy. Within, the cuts of eggplant, potato and snow peas were abundant, paired with soft, tender slices of chicken.

The XO Sauce was a specialty at Taxi Boat and was a definite must have. The sauce offered up a savoury sensation with hints of seafood flavour, balanced by a little bit of spice and rounded off by a small amount of sweetness. The fresh, crunchy prawns stirred through the sauce made for an exceptionally appetising dish, with intense flavours balanced out by crisp, crunchy veggies.

Tying it altogether was their Special Fried Rice. Offering plenty of “wok hei”, the very fragrant and aromatic bowl of rice tasted just as good as it smelled. Each grain of rice was nice crumbly, stir fried with BBQ pork, bean sprouts and mixed veggies. The light, fluffy sensation made every mouthful as enjoyable as the next.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

With a vast, pan Asian menu on offer Taxi Boat is certainly not your typical, strictly Thai restaurant. Nevertheless, the Thai food we sampled were beautifully executed and pays homage to their Thai tradition, all the while catering to a Western palate without losing any of the qualities that make Thai food so appealing.
