The Good

It was a brilliant start to our meal with the Ayame Special Platter. Delicately presented, the gigantic platter was topped with a dizzying array of sashimi. The tuna and salmon nigiri stood in the centre, with the fish incredibly fresh and the tuna almost melting in your mouth. The prawn tempura rolls were lightly fried to a golden brown and offered a light, crispy crunch coupled with juicy, flavoursome prawn.

We also enjoyed the Gyu Niku Tataki and the Nasu Dangaku. The Gyu Niku Tataki, more commonly known as beef tataki, featured a beautiful mountain of raw beef that exhibited amazing marbling and melt in your mouth texture. Drenched in a sweet and creamy sesame sauce that’s nutty and rich, this was no ordinary Tataki!

The Nasu Dangaku featured two layers of eggplant perched precariously on top of one another. The eggplants were twice cooked and had just the most soft and pillowy sensation. The crispness from the wontons skins beautifully juxtaposed the softer components, while a slight sweetness from the sauce really brought out the best of the eggplant.

Our mains consisted of the Ayame Eye Fillet and the Black Cod Miso. The Eye Fillet wss coated in a thick layer of creamy Miso mayonnaise. The sweet and rich sensation of the mayo perfectly accompanied the still-red and incredibly tender eye fillet. Incredibly juicy and with a beautiful beefy flavour, the steak certainly did not disappoint.

The Black Cod Miso was stacked high, the two fillets of fish were generous and chunky. Chomping down, you are rewarded with a juicy, silky smooth protein that’s cooked to perfection. This was served with a light miso sauce that truly let the freshness of the fish shine, as well as simple boiled veggies. An elegant yet perfect dish.
