The Good
The Mango Chewy Ball was absolutely delicious. The gorgeous dessert featured a scoop of creamy mango ice cream front and centre. Surrounding it was a rich and thick mango juice that was filled with fresh mango cubes and balls of glutinous rice. The mango cubes offered a pleasant sweetness and a forward mango flavour, while the rice balls had a soft, chewy sensation.
We then warmed up with the Black Glutinous Rice and Taro Paste. This very traditional dessert was done just right. With a thick, almost gooey texture thanks to the soft glutinous rice, the brightly coloured purple mixture contained plenty of beans and taro. A hearty and warming dessert for sure.
We also enjoyed the Dragon Fruit Cheese Tea. The brightly coloured Dragon Fruit exhibited a vibrant pink colour, which was nicely paired with a subtle yet ever present Jasmine tea flavour. Combined with the light cheese adding a hint of creaminess, this was undoubtedly the tastiest and well balanced cheese tea drink we’ve had.

The Verdict
Having been around since the 1960s, Hui Lau Shan is a household name in Hong Kong and a well-regarded dessert parlour. Bringing their years of expertise to Australia, all their desserts made to order and utilising the freshest of ingredients. It’s no doubt we enjoyed our desserts as much as we did!
