The Good
We were immediately welcomed by a delightful traditional Chinese decor upon entering David’s Spicy Pot. Adopting the increasingly popular choose-your-own model, a plethora of fresh, vibrant ingredients were presented for your picking.
For our soup base, we went with their signature Traditional Spicy Soup. Within, we loaded up with crisp Bok Choy, plump Shiitake Mushrooms, fresh and aptly fatty pork, beef and lamb, as well as plenty of fish, squid and tofu balls. Rounding it off beans the thick hand cut noodles that we’ve learned to love.
Soon after choosing our Traditional Spicy Soup with “little spicy” option, our giant bowl of noodles arrived steaming hot at our table. Then broth was absolutely delicious, carrying a hearty and bold flavour rounded off with a good amount of spice that left a delightful tingle in your tongue. The fragrant aroma of the Ma La Tang was incredible, and made every ingredient within the broth exceptionally flavourful. We found the beef and lamb slices perfectly cooked and delectably soft. Meanwhile, the mushrooms were fresh, juicy and perfectly carried the flavours of the broth itself. With the oilier bits of the Ma La Tang coating every inch of the thick cut noodles, we quickly slurped up our delicious and hearty bowl of noodles.
Apart from their Ma La Tang options, we also sampled their best selling Steamed Pork Ribs. The pork ribs were unbelievably tender, coated in an amazing spice that offered up a bold and forward aroma without being at all spicy. The pork ribs were so soft that it simply melted away in your mouth, leaving the bone, while nicely accompanied by pillowy soft chunks of potatoes.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
We absolutely loved our experience at David’s Spicy Pot. While the model of choose-your-own is not new, the fresh, quality ingredients and amazing broth on offer definitely sets David’s apart. Coupled with decadent side dishes like the Steamed Pork Ribs, we are most definitely hooked!
