  • Soy Chicken with Chicken Stock Rice

The Good

We opted to sample the Char Siew Rice and the Soy Chicken.

The Char Siew was freshly roasted, with a slight crispness on the outer that was almost charred. The pleasant sweet glaze added a hint of sticky goodness, and this made way for a juicy, tender inner that was full of porky goodness. The slight sweetness permeated throughout without being overwhelming, nicely accompanying the umami of the pork.

The Soy Chicken certainly did not disappoint either. Being the dish that won them the Michelin star, the simple, succulent chicken was marinated with a sweet and savoury soy sauce. Of course, the chicken was cooked to perfection without so much as a hint of toughness. This worked remarkably well with the Chicken Stock Rice, adding a touch of fatty richness and boatloads of chicken flavour to a pillowy bed of rice.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

While Hawker Chan isn’t exactly the best value Chinese BBQ out there given the small portion sizes, it has to be said that it’s one of the cheapest Michelin-starred meals you can buy. Thanks to superb execution, quality cuts, and top notch flavours, Hawker Chan too quickly became one of our favourites.
