The Good
The Flank Steak Rice Bowl was fragrant and delicious. The Angus Flank steak was cooked perfectly with a still-pink inner. The juicy, meaty cut offered a slight chewy texture that carried with it beautiful beefy flavour. This was nicely accompanied by the slightly sweet bulgogoi sauce that tied the unami with the rice. Accompanied with a fresh and crisp cucumber and daikon salad, this was one hearty bowl that’s tasty and healthy.
We also enjoyed the Pork Belly and Kimchi Fried Rice. Topped with a beautiful sunny tried egg, the vibrant colours were stunning and irresistible. The fragrant kimchi was forward and well integrated with the rice and made for a hot though not overly spicy base. The shredded pieces of pork belly within were plentiful and aptly fatty, creating a rich and flavoursome experience.
The Mediocre
Our K.F.C. Wings looked mighty impressive, though wasn’t nearly as tasty as the mains. The crisp, battered outer was thin and offered a crunchy experience. However, the inner was a tad dry and wasn’t as tender and juicy as we’d hoped.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Jan Chi offers a modern take on Korean cuisine with dishes packed full of flavour. Prices are definitely on the higher side for Korean rice bowls, but the portions are more than generous and quality of produce is top notch.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Sure. We would love to return for a dine-in experience.
