The Good
The Brisket was absolutely on point. With a lovely smokey sensation throughout, the protein was tender and fell apart effortlessly. The bold smokiness was perfectly accompanied by the richness of the beef, which was aptly fatty. An all-around perfect brisket.
The Pulled Pork definitely impressed as well. The pork had a good balance of lean and fat, making for an incredibly juicy and succulent experience that was neither too rich but still carried plenty of flavour. The slight sweetness of the pork itself was rounded out by some heavy salting, and this worked well with the slices of white bread.
Another favourite was the Cheese Kransky. The crunchy skin of the sausage was lightly charred. Enclosed within , the inner was bursting with melted cheese, amongst meat that had an almost bouncy feedback. Along with the protein, the slightly smokey flavour made this a pleasant and tasty addition to the slow cooked cuts.
The Mac and Cheese was tasty, with the melted cheese carrying plenty of creamy flavour and a suitable amount of richness. Though we would’ve preferred macaroni as opposed to penne as the pasta here.
Their coleslaw was fresh and crisp, incredibly fresh without being over laden with dressing. Coupled with the zesty, spicy pickles, this coleslaw certainly did wonders, cutting through the heavier bits of our meal.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Serving up perfectly slow cooked Central Texan style BBQ, Houston’s Barbecue in Melbourne’s West recently popped up on our radar, but quickly became one of our favourites BBQ joints of all time.
Their impeccable brisket, bold-flavoured pulled pork, and delicious sides most definitely delivered a tasty, hearty feed that’s bound to satisfy any hunger pangs. For those who love a good authentic American BBQ, Houston’s is a must try.
