The Good

We were off to a tasty start to our Asian-inspired feast with the Siu Mai Pork Dumplings. The thin, delicate skin of the dumpling held a plump and soft inner of seasoned pork mince. This was served with a delightful chilli black vinegar, with a slight tang and a tinge of spice, just enough to make your lips tingle. With fragrant coriander and slices of chilli alongside, these dumplings were the perfect appetiser.

The Tempura Tofu & Vegetables didn’t disappoint either. The light tempura batter was thin yet crisp. The light frying was just as we expect this traditional Japanese entree to be. The soft, gooey inner of the zucchini, and the meaty goodness of the shiitake mushroom were the definite standouts for us, and the spiced tomato relish, offering a sweet and slightly sour flavour, definitely enhanced the flavours too.

Our Soi 10 Rendang Beef was absolutely irresistible. The rich and almost creamy rendang sauce was exceptionally aromatic and full of flavour. Within, the beef was tender and soft, inheriting the bold, slightly spicy flavours of the rendang. This was nicely accompanied by crisp, pickled veggies as well as toasted coconut, which all went along very nicely with a bowl of hot steamed rice.

Not to be missed was the Korean Fried Chicken. The generous portions of fried chicken were a sight to behold, coated with spiced gochujang and kewpie that made for a spicy yet slightly creamy sauce that liberally enclosed each piece of chicken. Perhaps due to the takeaway nature of things, we felt that the batter could’ve been a tad crunchier, but the chicken within was tender and moist. This paired well with an abundance of crunchy fries and made for a very hearty, and spicy dish.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

Popping up at The Grosvenor Hotel, Soi10 is the latest initiative by Michael Lambie that aims to bring amazing food to the new no-contact, post COVID-19 world. The drive-through concept works well, and let’s not forget how bold and appetising their small yet diverse menu tastes as well!

For Asian-inspired street eats, Soi10 is right up there with the best of what Melbourne has to offer – all without leaving the car and devoured without plates or cutlery!
