- Wagyu Rump
- Classico Burger
- Fungo Burger
The Good
The Sweet Potato Wedges were simply irresistible. Hand cut and fried to perfection, the light crispy outer of the wedges made way for a pillowy, soft inner. The slight sweetness of the sweet potato, combine with the fluffy texture and lightly salted crisp outer made it just so tempting.
The Mediocre
The steaks were unfortunately lacklustre. The cuts of meat were not particularly fresh, nor was quality of the cuts top notch. The bold, beefy flavour we were expecting from the Wagyu Rump was sorely missing, while the Eye Fillet was tougher than we liked despite being cooked to medium rare.
The Bad
The Spanish Chorizo Sausage was overcooked and insanely salty. The thick, tough skin with way too much charring made for an unpleasant experience.
Meanwhile, the Cauliflower Salad felt undercooked and was incredibly raw and tough to chew. This was paired with a sweet and tangy dressing that didn’t quite compliment the dish.
The burgers were also a disappointment. Both the patties in the Classico and the Fungo were sorely overcooked and incredibly dry. The tough, rubbery texture of the patties pretty much ruined both burgers for us. The amount of mushrooms and cheese in the Fungo was sorely lacking as well.
The Verdict
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.
Unfortunately, budget steak houses like Marcelleria at The Glen dishes up steaks that aren’t any better than what you can fry up at home. They aren’t even that cheap either!
While we can forgive the mediocre steaks, the poorly executed burgers and sides is the final nail on the coffin. Why bother? Just go to literally any pub for a better steak.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Hard pass.
