The Good
Pan-fried Pork Dumplings: To give credit where it’s due, the dumplings did arrive with a decent golden-brown crust on the bottom. There was a nice initial crunch that promised more than the rest of the dish delivered.
The Mediocre
Pan-fried Pork Dumplings: While the filling was passable, the wrappers were the letdown; the skins were far too thick and doughy, resulting in a heavy, chewy texture.
The Bad
Beef Hor Fun: This was, quite frankly, a disaster. A good Hor Fun relies on wok hei (breath of the wok) and slippery, individual rice noodles. What we got was a clumped mass of noodles that hadn’t been properly separated. A bizarre assortment of “filler” ingredients like broccoli, zucchini, and baby corn that have no place in a traditional Hor Fun. The ingredient list felt like a “fridge clear-out” rather than a traditional recipe.
The Verdict
Skip it. With so many incredible dumpling institutions just a short train ride away (or even just down the street), there’s very little reason to settle for thick skins and clumped noodles. If you’re looking for authentic execution and technical skill, you won’t find it at this table.
