The Good
Pork & Celery Pan-Fried Dumplings were absolutely delicious. These were executed perfectly with a remarkably thin skin and a beautifully crispy bottom. Inside, the filling was very juicy, flavourful, and meaty. A genuinely great dish.
Wonton Noodle Soup was a very decent, comforting bowl. It came with good, hearty wontons that featured a silky skin and a substantial pork and prawn filling. The noodles were cooked perfectly al dente, sitting in a broth that was very clean and light.
The Mediocre
Sichuan Dandan Noodles was a frustrating mixed bag. Flavour-wise, it delivered a good kick of spice and a great mix of peanut and sesame sauce to provide a deep umami hit. It was well mixed, with the rich sauce coating all the noodles nicely. Unfortunately, the noodles themselves were cooked way too soft, which dragged down the texture of an otherwise tasty dish.

The Verdict
Overall, the food at Hoppy Dumpling is undeniably tasty and hits the right flavour profiles. However, we found the portions to be a bit small across the board, and therefore it isn’t great value for money. Itโs a decent option if youโre craving well-flavoured dumplings in South Yarra, but be prepared to pay a premium for a feed that might leave you wanting a little more.
