Food

  • Pulled Pork with Duck Egg
  • Ricotta & Hazelnut Pancakes

The Good

The pulled pork was very flavoursome and was exceedingly soft and tender. This complemented the hash cake well, with just the right amount of crunch and balances out the saltiness of the pulled pork.

The pancakes were quite moist and dense. It should be noted that it was still rather soft as opposed to the stale kind of dense. Personally the strawberry sauce and dressing was a bit too sweet for my palette but complimented the pancakes quite nicely.

The Mediocre

The duck egg tasted rather like an ordinary egg unfortunately. I was quite looking forward to that.

The pancakes had chunks of actual hazelnut embedded, as opposed to having a hazelnut-flavour infused pancake. This was an interesting choice but the chef, but not sure if it works in their favour as hazelnut-flavoured pancakes would’ve been nice.

The Bad

Pulled Pork was a tad on the salty side and tasted very Asian, as if it had been cooked in duck fat.

The Verdict

A decent effort from this little cafe. Could be a real winner if they get their flavours a bit more balanced.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

Definitely. Keen to be back to try their burgers in the evening.
