The Good
The coffee was perfect. Literally. It was smooth. Flavours were bold and forward with great depth of flavour and a hint of aftertaste. Whatever this house blend is, it’s pretty amazing and I’d happily drink it like water. Best coffee in South Yarra and the barista is definitely on par with Brother Bubba Budan.
The Chai Latte was also quite pleasant. Usually made way too sweet, the flavour balance here was spot on and borrowed great aroma from the Bonsoy soy milk. The chai was applied generously and you could’ve easily brewed another cup.
The Mediocre
Somehow we ended up ordering a scroll. The pastry was fresh but was wrapped too dense for my liking. The icing sugar on top, combined with the cinnamon, proved to be rather delicious though. This would’ve been a whole lot better if their dough was fluffier.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Definitely and undoubtedly the best coffee on South Yarra. The house blend is amazing and I had one of the best coffees ever right here.
The food? I’m not convinced yet and I’m sure there’s room for improvement.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Absolutely. Will be back for more coffees!
