The Good

The Croissant Benedict was very enjoyable and was probably the highlight of our brunch. Toasted to a nice crunch, the flakey outer of the croissant was accompanied by an abundance of sides. The beautifully poached egg was well complemented by a rich creamy dash oh hollandaise sauce. A generous amount of bacon and prosciutto, as well as some of the juiciest, most flavourful pan freirs mushrooms, each and every component of the dish was fresh, flavourful, and very enjoyable just by itself. Being the uncivilised penguin that I am, I held this huge croissant burger in my hands along with all the toppings in between. It's no surprise that each bite was bursting with flavour, and made for an extremely messy feed.

We also had a blast with the Nutella French Toast. Sandwiched between the brioche slices was an ever oozey layer of Nutella. Topped with an abundance of fresh berries and completed with a sweet and slightly sour syrup, the flavours worked incredibly well together. One gripe about the French toast would be its flakeyness on the other, which could've done with a tad more butter and frying to create a fluffier and airier enclosure.

Smashed avocado on toast is a brunch staple, and the Smashed Avo here was beautifully presented and exhibited the ingredients at their freshest, unadulterated state. Exceedingly fresh and flavourful, the flavour and aroma of the smashed avocado as well as the beetroot hummus were simple yet refreshing. The highlight though were the two huge chunks of haloumi cheese, which was complex in flavour without being overly chewy or salty.

The Mediocre

While the Smashed Avo was enjoyable, I flet that the overall wow factor was definitely lacking, especially when compared to other dishes. Though, my biggest gripe with this dish was that the 'toast', which remained untoasted on this occasion.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

Overall it was a rather enjoyable brunch experience. Portion sizes were more than generous, and ingredients exceptionally fresh and tasty.

While the execution wasn't flawless, and you may not get the same plating as seen in other photos, you do get to customise each dish to your heart's content and make it something you would absolutely devour. My customised Croissant Benedict, with added sides, was thoroughly enjoyable and I treasured every last bite.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

Sure. I'd definitely be back if I were in the area. With brunch choices lacking in the area, Lucy Lockett definitely hits the spot for those looking for a tasty and enjoyable breakfast at an affordable price point.

I'd like to thank owner Christian for his generous hospitality and inviting us to sample his restaurant's beautiful food.
