The Good
The Nutty Caramel Popcorn Shake was absolutely delectable. Topped with popcorn coated with salted caramel, and loaded with whipped cream, the shake stood tall and mighty. The shake itself was rich and creamy, with a beautifully forward and nutty flavour and texture. The aroma of the nuts, combined with the sweetness and saltiness of the salted caramel, made for a very appetising treat.
We also enjoyed the Salted Caramel Pretzel Shake. Not dissimilar in presentation to the popcorn shake, the milkshake itself had an equally interesting texture, though this time with a pretzel rather than a nutty flavour. The biscuity flavour of the pretzel was forward and prominent throughout. Loading on the caramel sauce, the age old combination of pretzel and caramel was pure gold.
The Mediocre
We were honestly rather disappointed by the Nutella Tim Tam Shake. The liberal application of cheap chocolate sauce substituted the use of actual Nutella. The resultant shake, unsurprisingly, tasted no different from a plain old chocolate milkshake rather than Nutella as advertised. The singular bar of Tim Tam on top failed to add much value, as was the rock hard, factory made brownie with an unpleasant aftertaste that honestly we could’ve done without. While this, for all intents and purposes, would’ve been a perfectly serviceable chocolate milkshake, the lack of both Nutella and Tim Tam that composed the shake on this occasion made an absolute mockery of its name.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
While the majority of shakes that we sampled were innovative in flavour and very enjoyable, we felt let down and deceived by the more traditional Nutella shake.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Maybe. While I’m definitely not adverse to return to try their burgers, the inconsistency of the shakes on this occasion was disappointing. As a result, we have no desire to hurry back for more.
