The Good

It was off to a brilliant start with the Zucchini Fritters and Beef Quesadillas. With a light yet perfectly fried batter, the fritter’s crispy golden brown outer enclosed a soft and well-seasoned mash of zucchini and various spices. The Quesadillas were generously filled, with a lightly toasted tortilla that enclosed a well-spiced mixture of beef, mashed potatoes and herbs. These entrees was served alongside a creamy tzaziki that offered up a refreshing richness.

The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Beef Ribs. Served on a huge platter, the ribs were slow roasted to just the perfect softness for 24 whole hours. Yes. One. Full. Day. Exceedingly tender and succulent, the protein was dressed in a house-made BBQ sauce, providing a appropriate amount of sweetness with a smokey undertone, all the while letting the beautiful aroma of the beef to shine through. The well-balanced mixture of lean and fat offered up the perfect harmony in flavours and texture. Absolutely delectable.

Another crowd favourite was the Pork Hock. Roasted to a perfect crisp, the outer skin was aptly rendered down and enclosed some of the juiciest and tender pork meat we’ve come across. Each bite was quite literally bursting with juiciness, and was made even more delicious by the pork jus that added intensity to the umami flavours. Cutting right through the heavier components were the pickled onions and lime chilli dressing, providing a slightly tangy and refreshing sensation.

The Meat Platter for Two was a sight to behold and the portion size was definitely more than generous. The various proteins were served in abundance, with choices of shaved grilled chicken, roast lamb, pork belly presented alongside warm pita bread, tzatziki, and a fresh Greek salad. The real kicker though was undoubtedly the delectable beer battered chips that were lightly seasoned with rosemary and garnished with some flavoursome goats cheese. Light and fluffy potatoes with a bold, crispy outer. Delicious.

We also enjoyed the Spanish Paella. Topped with a generous amount of exceptionally fresh and sizeable seafood, the rice within the paella itself was cooked rather perfectly. The aborio rice was soft without being too glucky, and was well-seasoned which provided an appetising kick in spice. Within, we found perhaps some of the tastiest mussels we’ve had, so juicy and tender without a hint of fshy aftertaste. Alongside were a plethora of other deliciously fresh seafood including fish fillets, calamari, and scallops, all well-cooked and providing a beautiful aroma throughout.

We concluded the meal with the Medah French Toast. The French Toast was soft and spongey, exhibiting a crispy, golden brown outer than enclosed an aptly airy and eggy inner. Alongside was the star of the show, the vanilla and honey pannacotta that was suitably wobbly. With a beautiful creamy sensation that was accompanied by the silky smooth texture, the vanilla flavour was pleasant and fragrant, with a hint of honey permeating throughout. The sprinkles of chocolate soil offered up much diversity in texture, while the berrie coolis provided a nice balance in the sweetness.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Would Penguin Eat Again?

Most definitely. The quality and finesse exhibited by Medah is often hard to come by, let alone in the far Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and it no doubt resulted in one of the best Mediterranean meals we’ve ever sampled.
