The Good

The Coconut Kasoundi Baked Beans were a hearty and undeniably delicious beginning to our breakfast. Served in a cute bakeware, the beans were cooked to just the right softness in a rich my flavoured and unapologetically bold tomato based sauce. Well spiced and fragrant, the flavours were further enhanced by the creamy yet light minted yoghurt, perhaps made more palatable by the hint of mint throughout. Topped with two beautifully runny poached eggs, and opting to add both well-fried chorizo and bacon, this was one hearty dish that definitely satisfied the tastebuds. We soaked up all the lovely juices with a delectable, lightly toasted and buttered sourdough.

It was an interesting take on the Eggs Benny and we were pleasantly surprised. Topped with a creamy and vibrant hollandaise that slowly dribbled down the sides of the crispy potato and braised pork hash, it was a sight to behold. Unraveling the crunchy outer skin of the hash reveals a mushy yet fluffy inner that was a flavoursome mix of potatoes and braised pork. While we would’ve preferred more braised pork within, the flavours were definitely present and enjoyable throughout. With the wilted spinach adding a fresh earthiness

We rounded off our meal with the Stacks on Waffles, which were absolutely divine. The saffron and caramelised banana waffles were exceptionally fresh and flavoursome, with a slight though ever present banana flavour permeating throughout. Smeared generously on top was the sweet and tangy lemon curd, silky smooth and providing an excellent tang that was perfectly accompanied by the heavenly airy whipped cream. The Macarons topping the beautiful dish were flawless, such soft and delicate outer shell that sandwiched an aptly dark chocolate inner.

The Mediocre

Nothing.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

With a touch of creativity thrown in, Short Straw offers an incredibly delicious breakfast fare with a modern twist.

Universally well-executed with consistency, not only did the dishes look spectacular, but they tasted the part as well, which makes it incredibly hard to pick a favourite.
