The Good
It was a great start with the Green Folded Eggs, and despite being a vegetarian dish, this was not light on flavour. The eggs were pillowy soft and cooked just right, with a slight creaminess throughout, Within the omelette, we found it generously filled with a fresh mix of spinach and peas which offered up a refreshing and aromatic experience. Served on the side was an exceptionally flavorsome farro, feta and kale salad that offered up a pleasant crispness and diverse texture.
We also enjoyed the Sirarcha & Chorizo Eggs Benny. The spicy sirarcha hollandaise was aptly creamy, with a good amount of spice that made your lips tingle without gh not overpowering. Underneath sat two perfectly poached eggs, with its yolk running down onto the chorizo and avocado-topped kimchi potato hash. Fried to a nice crisp, the hash itself had a crusty outer that gave way to a slightly spicy and textured inner with a hint of kimchi flavour throughout. Our only gripe about the dish would be the chorizo and avocado, which could’ve been applied more liberally on this occasion.
The Mediocre
Unfortunately, the Hokey Pokey Hotcakes missed the mark on this visit. Despite the nice crispy outer, the hotcakes themselves were unexpectedly dense and heavy, which was in contrast to the fluffy and airy qualities that we were looking for. The fruits scattered throughout were fresh and was well complemented by the ricotta and vanilla bean mascarpone, though this dish definitely felt it needed a sauce of some sort to hold all the components together.

The Verdict
As a well-established cafe in Camberwell, Legacy is a cosy and intimate venue with a small yet interesting menu to match. It’s welcoming to see traditional staples like scrambled eggs and eggs benny elevated to the next level, and while the execution wasn’t quite perfect, it was an enjoyable meal nonetheless, especially with cups of awesome, full-bodied lattes.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Sure. Count me in for more of that Eggs Benny please!
