The Good

The Nutella Hong Kong Waffles were simply amazing. The stunning presentation made way for an exceptionally indulgent treat. The egg waffles were perfectly made, with a nice crispy outer that contrasted the soft and moist inner. Laden with a generous helping of Nutella within, the creamy richness of the dish was well complemented by the silky smooth vanilla mascarpone and caramelised banana. The sweeter components were well juxtaposed by the tartness of the berries scattered throughout, while the pistachio crumbs offered up a satisfying crunch and diversity in texture. A absolutely flawless dish that’s bound to impress any sweet-tooth.

We also enjoyed the Herb Feta Smashed Avo, though this was markedly less spectacular. The egg was perfectly poached, and popping it open made for a runny yolk that dribbled down onto the slice of toasted sourdough. The avocado was well-complemented by dill as well as feta, which offered up a creamy yet fragrant experience. Contrasting this was the crisp target beetroot, which, while pleasant, was drier than expected.

Our drinks certainly didn’t disappoint either. The Chai Latte was aptly fragrant and rather creamy, with great chai aroma throughout. The Mango Smoothie was rich and deliciously flavoursome, with bold mango flavours, just the right amount of sweetness, and plenty of different textures throughout to make the drink interesting and enjoyable.

The Mediocre

Unfortunately the Eggs Benny didn’t quite hit the mark today. Sandwiched between the buttery charcoal rye buns, we found two perfectly poached eggs with incredibly runny yolk. With a creamy hollandaise liberally applied, the rich creaminess of this eggs benedict certainly hit the spot, and was well accompanied by slices of crispy, fried bacon. The weakest point of the dish however would be the Southern Fried Chicken, which on this occasion, was unexpectedly dry and tough. The chicken itself was very sparingly crumbed and appeared to be shallow-fried, lacking the crunch you’d expect from any type of fried chicken – let alone Southern. This Eggs Benny would’ve seriously won over our hearts, if not for the chicken within.

Despite visiting during the later hours of Sunday afternoon, the service was unexpectedly slow given the lack of crowds. Greater attention to detail is also needed, especially in regards to spillage and clearing up tables.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

Having visited three of the five ‘Penta Group’ cafes, we feel that My Other Brother is undeniably the weakest of the bunch. While the menu is incredibly ambitious and creative, the execution on this visit was far lacking finesse.

Don’t get me wrong, the meal was still overall enjoyable, though only the Nutella Waffles truly lived up to the standards we have come to expect from this leading group of eateries.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

I definitely won’t hesitate to return for the waffles!
