The Good
It was off to a pleasant start with the Pulled Pork Benedict. Lightly drizzled with a creamy hollondaise, the rich sauce was well complemented by the rather lean yet soft pork shoulder which was bold and forward with an amazing porky sensation. Underneath sat two amazing potato rosti, fried to a perfect golden brown, the crisp outer gave way to a soft and mushy inner that was well-seasoned and textured. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the poached eggs were overcooked and definitely lacked the runny character we were after.
The Sweet Potato Burger didn’t disappoint either. Sandwiched between the bright green matcha buns, the sweet potato patty was lightly breaded and roasted to a golden brown. The fragrant and pillowy soft inner was full of flavour, which was well accompanied by the earthy and slightly sweet house-made beetroot hummus and a heap of avocado. Combined with the fresh sliced tomatoes and fresh salad leaves, this was definitely one of the better veggie burgers we’ve come across. The sweet potato fries served alongside were simply divine. The amazingly crunchy outer gave way to a soft and fluffy inner, with a great sweet potato taste and just the right balance of sweet and savoury.
The star of the show must undoubtedly be the Buttermilk Pancakes. The three-high stack of incredibly fluffy and spongy pancakes were a sight to behold, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and fairy floss. The soft, pillowy dough of the pancakes were just perfect to soak up the drizzle of maple syrup and the slowly melting ice cream, and the sweeter components of the dish was well contrasted by the berry compote and fresh fruits dotted throughout. With the toasted pistachio and almond flakes adding texture and crunch, this pancake was almost flawless in every way.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Having recently relaunched, Mary Miller is a cute, pet-friendly neighbourhood cafe that would certainly satisfy the locals, with both friendly service and tasty dishes.
While the execution will definitely need to be fine-tuned, the foundation on which this new establishment is built on is undoubtedly solid, and what we sampled today was definitely delicious and satisfying.
