The Good
The Pumpkin Salad was simply delightful. The bright orange chunks of pumpkin were plentiful and cooked to the perfect softness this was well accompanied by fresh leaves of spinach. Juxtaposing this were the juicy crunch of pomegranate seeds spreaded throughout. Liberally topped with goats cheeee that offered up plenty of flavour as well as a honey dressing that provided a light hint of sweetness, we found that this salad had the perfect balance in both flavour and texture.
The Alla Panna Spaghetti certainly did not disappoint. Topped with plenty of cheese and wholesome slices of juicy, sautéed mushrooms, the buttery, creamy aroma simply made our mouth water. Underneath the bed of pasta was cooked just right to the softer side of al dente, which was generously coated with the creamy sauces and made for a rather rich experience.
The pizzas certainly disappoint either. The highlight was perhaps the Pollo Pizza. Topped with plenty of pulled chicken that was both juicy and succulent, the pizza was full of flavour thanks to the generous dollops of yoghurt and a blend of basil and pesto. Coupled with loads of fragrant coriander and a mildly sweet tomato base, this pizza definitely offered a bold and relentless flavour that keeps you wanting for more.
The Pulled Pork Pizza was equally enjoyable. The slow cooking ensured that the pulled pork was plenty soft and full of flavour. Delivering a slight sweetness throughout, the protein was well accompanied by slices of colourful roast capsicum and aptly sweet caramelised onions. Coupled with chunks of lightly yet creamy buffalo mozzarella, this was a meaty pizza that was appetising and very well balanced.
We concluded our meal with a Chocolate Brownie, and this was surely no ordinary brownie indeed. Served warm. The outer was slightly caramelised and crisp as if straight out of the oven. Cutting down reveals a moist and gooey inner that was rich with cocoa without being overwhelmingly sweet. Accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this simple yet flawless dessert was just the most indulgent way to end the meal.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
From the affordable prices, a small yet well executed menu, generous portion sizes and not to mention friendly and hospitable service, Pepper excels on petty much all fronts as a humble neighbourhood cafe and caters well to the locals of Flemington.
Needless to say, our meal here did not disappoint one bit and it’s truly a shame we haven’t discovered this neighbourhood gem any sooner.
