The Good
Nothing.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
The Hopkins River Steak Sandwich looked promising but fell far short of expectations. Beneath the sunny fried egg, the thinly sliced beef fillets were incredibly tough and chewy. Lacking in any quality beef flavour and hard as nails, even the steak knife struggled to seperate the protein. Underneath were two stale slices of toast smeared with a sickly sweet and frankly overpowering “smokey tomato redish”.
The Yorkshire Benedict was equally disappointing. The two poached eggs tasted of strong vinegar. Underneath was the gigantic Yorkshire pudding that was doughy and mushy, without any of the light and crispy top that normally comes with it. We opted to add some grilled leg ham, which on this instance was shaved so thin and fried to such a crisp that it was more like eating prosciutto.
Our meal concluded with the Souffle Waffles. One normally associate soffule with a light, fluffy texture. Not so in this case. The waffles were hard, dense and was almost like biting into a dense pound cake. The outer lacked crispness, while the poached pears still had their skin on. One bite was enough.
The Verdict
We hate nothing more than wasting good food, but unfortunately the food at Urban Provedore was of incredibly poor quality that left us no choice but to leave most of the dishes untouched.
Cheap, stale ingredients. Poor execution. South Yarra prices. Sorry but this just doesn’t sit well with us, and the locals seem to agree. This must be the singular worst meal we’ve dug into in 2019.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
God no.
