The Good

It was an amazing start to our brunch with the Latte and Flat White. The latte art was simply second to none. So intricate and detailed, the art was exceptionally creative and unique. Coupled with a beautiful bold flavour and creamy, silky froth, these were the perfect coffees to start our meal.

We proceeded to dig into the Forest Mushroom Risotto. The simple presentation made for a delicious and hearty feed. The risotto was perfectly cooked, with soft, pillowy arborio rice inheriting a rich and creamy mushroom flavour. The abundance of fresh juicy mushrooms were delicious, nicely paired with a drizzle of truffle oil to enhance the flavours and a bit of melted cheese to hold everything together.

Our meal concluded with the French Toast. Despite the tragic presentation, the dessert actually tasted great. The french toast itself was beautifully soft and eggy, with a nice golden brown outer and a spongy inner that was the perfect sponge to soak up chocolate ganache and berry compote. Well controlled in sweetness, this was a good dish to conclude our meal.

The Mediocre

The Spanish Omelette didn’t quite impress on this occasion. The open omelette was felt rather small, and the corn and capsicum toppings were quite bold enough to offer enough flavour. Thankfully, the slices of chorizo proved spicy and meaty, though the dish was overall rather pedestrian.

The Bad

Nothing.

The Verdict

Four Beans is a 30+ year old roasters turned cafe, churning out amazing coffees with beautiful latte art. While the coffee was predictably top notch, the food menu was safe and unsurprising. The presentation though, definitely needs more work to meet the standards Melbournians have come to expect.
